The first VR viewing party in the Netherlands. 60 people, 60 Meta Quest headsets, one live football match streamed directly into virtual reality.
Working with ESPN Netherlands and KPN, I built a Unity experience that put viewers in a virtual skybox during the PSV vs. AZ match. Not watching on a screen — actually there, with 360° stadium views and the crowd energy around you.
The technical challenge: live-streaming a football match to VR headsets in real-time, at scale. The human result: people cheering, gasping, and celebrating together while wearing headsets — experiencing the future of sports broadcasting.
ESPN TV Interview
Watch people experience live football in VR for the first time — and an interview I had about the experience and making it.
What we learned: VR doesn’t replace being at the stadium — it creates something entirely new. A shared experience that’s both intimate and communal, where technology disappears and the game takes over.
